A debt of blood must be repaid in blood
The poster below circa 1972/3, contains yet another caricature of Uncle Sam in his distinctively stripped trousers, carrying a cross. The accompanying text refers to the toll suffered by US forces in the Provinces of Tay Ninh (near the Cambodian border) and Ben Tre (Mekong Delta), and their impact on US resolve in South Vietnam.
In the background on the first cross to the left is a reference to the Battle of Kom Tum fought in the Spring of 1972 in which the US suffered heavy aerial losses while acting in a support role to the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN). At that time the US had virtually ceased its own ground operations in Vietnam.
