The heroic ben tre ladies
Ho Chi Minh called on the participation of women and they were actively involved from the very beginning of the revolutionary movement.
One of the most interesting of these contemporary figures is Nguyen Thi Dinh, an original long-haired warrior who fought against the French in her teens. She led an uprising in 1945, folloed by the celebrated 1960 uprising in Ben Tre, which is commemorated in the work above.
Nguyen Thi Dinh rose through the ranks to eventually become Deputy Commander of the Viet Cong (VC), the highest ranking combat position held by a woman. Other well known women include warrior-diplomat NguyenThi Binh, Cu Chi guerrilla, Ho Thi Bi, warrior-physician, Duong Quynh Hoa, and the young heroine, Le Thi Hong Gam, 1951-1970, who is celebrated in the poster following.
