Nguyen Thu was born in 1930 in Bac Thai, Hanoi, and was trained at the Indochina Fine Arts College during the period 1957 ? 1962. He was considered to be an artist of the Viet Bac mountains. His drawing lines were soft but strong. He was applauded by his peers as the artist who most accurately captured Ho Chi Minh?s portrait.
Nguyen Thu was eventually promoted to be the Dean of the Indochina Fine Arts College. Nowadays that College has changed its name to the Hanoi University of Art. Until recently, a corner of that University, located at 42 Yet Kieu Street, Hanoi, was his home. Truly, Nguyen Thu dedicated his life and his career to modern Art and particularly to Vietnamese propaganda paintings.
