Tran Van Can

Tran Van Can was a well-known painter and a member of the ?Art Association of Vietnam?. He became a teacher who taught many other prominant Vietnamese artists. He was born in 1910 in Kien An, Haiphong ,and died in 1994 in Hanoi.

After graduating from the ?Indochina Fine Arts College? following his study during the years 1931-1936, Tran Van Can produced many paintings, some of which were awarded the Ho Chi Minh prizes for art. To many art-loving people, his painting named ?Em Thu? (?Sweetheart Thu??), is immortal.

Tran Van Can also contributed a great deal to propaganda painting. Through his art he inspired people to participate in the struggle for the Nation?s independence. Among his propaganda paintings in the ?Dogma Collection? is one named ?Chong My? (?Against Americans?).
