ABOUT

-
Dogma Collection is a private collection and exhibition space in Ho Chi Minh City specializing in Vietnamese art and propaganda materials from the revolutionary period (1945 - 1985). Through our collection, exhibitions, public programs, and research initiatives, we preserve Vietnam’s visual culture from this era and connect it to contemporary practice. Our work is focused on interconnected programs: collection
preservation, exhibitions, public programming, and research. We also organize the biennial Dogma Prize, Vietnam's first private art prize for contemporary artists from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.Founded by Dominic Scriven in Hanoi in the early 1990s, Dogma began as a collection of revolutionary propaganda posters: "artworks in themselves that struck the eye with bold colors, clear and urgent calls to action, the very essence of mobilization. The collection emerged amidst the newly burgeoning crowd of young contemporary artists enjoying fresh creative freedoms in the early years of Đổi Mới, in a still quiescent Hanoi of lakes, trees, old streets, and cramped urban life lived on the sidewalks, all under the gaze of a revolving theatre of propaganda posters."
Today, we aim to be a sustainable private sector entity that supports the history and development of Vietnam's artistic production and its relationship to the country's political and economic development. Our objectives will bend to reflect changing opportunities, challenges, and priorities. We prioritize Conservation (of the collection), Promotion (of visual arts), Presentation (of Vietnamese arts), and Development (of the collection and the community in which it thrives).
